Our history
History of Raddho
In terms of defence, the permanent aspects of mobilisation are as follows:
- defence of civil and political liberties;
- children's rights;
- the denunciation of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment;
- arbitrary arrests and detentions
- emergency alerts, prevention, mediation and conflict resolution in West Africa;
- the fight against the proliferation of small arms through the ban on anti-personnel mines;
- assistance to refugees and displaced persons.
With regard to the promotion of human rights in Senegal, in the sub-region and across the continent, RADDHO has been particularly active in the following areas
From 1994 to the present day, RADDHO has been successfully involved in the following activities:
- surveys on refugees and displaced persons in Casamance (1995);
- In May 1995, RADDHO was able to participate in the United Nations meeting against torture, which had the immediate impact of incorporating the relevant provisions of this Convention into the Penal Code, as recommended by the Committee.
- strengthening the organisational capacities of women in RADDHO (1999);
- observation of parliamentary and local elections (2001);
- World Conference Against Racism (2001);
- participation in the women's conference in Mexico (2002)
- participation in sessions of the ACHPR (African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights)
- Finally, in May 2003, RADDHO obtained special consultative status with ECOSOC at the United Nations.
- Promotion et défense des droits de l’homme:
RADDHO is committed to ensuring respect for human life and dignity, and to promoting the full exercise of citizenship.
- Defending victims’ rights:
The organisation provides legal and judicial assistance to victims, particularly vulnerable people (women, children, refugees, etc.).
- Advocacy and awareness-raising:
RADDHO carries out advocacy and awareness-raising activities to ensure that human rights are respected, particularly in the areas of civil and political liberties, economic, social and cultural rights, and the rights of future generations.
- Conflict prevention:
The organisation works on conflict prevention, mediation and conflict resolution, particularly in West Africa.
- Fight against impunity:RADDHO fights against impunity and promotes justice, notably through the International Criminal Court.
RADDHO’s vision is of an African continent where human rights are fully respected, where citizens enjoy their fundamental rights, where conflicts are prevented and resolved peacefully , and where every individual can live in dignity, justice and peace.
- Human dignity:
Recognising and respecting the inherent worth of every individual.
- Equality:
Promoting the equality of all before the law and in the enjoyment of rights, regardless of race, sex, religion, social or other origin.
- Justice:
Working for a judicial system that is fair and accessible to all, guaranteeing the right to a fair trial and protection against all forms of injustice.
- Freedom:
Protecting fundamental freedoms such as freedom of expression, assembly, association, and freedom of thought.
- Citizenship:
Encouraging the active participation of citizens in the political and social life of their country, and ensuring that their rights are respected.
- Solidarity:Promoting cooperation and unity between African peoples, fostering peace, friendship and solidarity.
